Biography

Severiano Paoli graduated in double bass at the Istituto Musicale L. Boccherini (Lucca) with M.Gabriele Ragghianti. He has then perfectioned himself at the Prins Claus Conservatorium (Groningen, Nl) and with Wolfgang Güttler (SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg). He has moreover attended masterclasses with Thierry Barbè (principal double bass of the Opera orchestra, Paris), Rinat Ibragimov (London Symphony Orchestra), Dorin Marc (Munchner Philarmonie), Catalin Rotaru. He has also studied early music praxis with Margaret Urquhart (Het Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, Het Conservatorium van Amsterdam) and Robert Franenberg (Rotterdam Philarmonisch Orkest, Nederland Bach Vereniging) He collaborates with various orchestras and ensembles including Orfeo 55 (Metz), Anima Aeterna (Brugge), Capriola di gioia (Bruges), Margaretha Consort, Auser Musici (Pisa), the Nederland Philarmonisch Orkest (Amsterdam), the Noordpool Orchestra (Groningen), the Festival Puccini Orchestra (Torre del Lago), l’orchestra Bruno Maderna (Forli’), Orchestra Arche’ (Pisa), Camerata Strumentale Citta’ di Prato. He collaborated with the ensemble Auser Musici to the recording of the opera “Il Bajazet” by Francesco Gasparini for Glossa Music during the Opera Barga Festival 2014, and to the modern premiere of Il Girello by Jacopo Melani in 2017.

In 2018 he won the historically informed performance competition during the Viennese bass days in Amsterdam.

Since 2018 he’s a Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin endorsed artist, and since 2024 an Eastman endorser.
